📖How to use the 5 minute timer

  1. 1The timer is already set to 5 minutes — press Start (or the space bar) to begin.
  2. 2Press Pause to stop the clock without losing your place, then Resume to continue.
  3. 3Press F for fullscreen if you are presenting or projecting the timer.
  4. 4Press R to reset back to 5:00 and run it again.

Five minutes is the length of a stretch break, a quick tidy-up, or two songs on the radio. Short enough that you cannot talk yourself out of starting.

Frequently asked questions

Is this 5 minute timer free?

Yes. The timer is free, needs no account, and runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is installed and nothing is uploaded.

Does the timer keep running if I switch tabs?

Yes. The countdown is driven by the clock, not by animation frames, so it keeps correct time while the tab is in the background. The flip animation catches up when you come back.

Can I change the time once the countdown has started?

You can press Pause, then Reset to return to 5:00. To use a different length, use the preset buttons under the clock or type a new time with Set Time.

Will I hear an alert when the 5 minutes are up?

Yes. A sound alert plays when the countdown reaches zero. You can turn it off, or enable auto-repeat, from the settings panel in the header.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. The flip digits scale down to fit narrow screens, and fullscreen mode works on mobile browsers too.
